This project introduces a new perspective on menopausing, which stands as one of the most divisive, stereotyped, and silenced gendered experiences worldwide. Existing approaches tend to view the menopausing process as a medical and psychological issue. However, in a world where there are one billion menopausing people, activism and calls for social research are gaining traction. Our multidisciplinary team will investigate the power of small communities and networks to raise awareness of the diversity of the menopausing experience. The research will focus on ethnic and racialised minorities, migrants, queers, and activists based in the UK, encompassing widespread activism and less-studied networks and spaces in Finland and the Baltic countries. We are conducting a pilot research in Ghana. Despite being a universal phenomenon, menopause is fundamentally entangled with histories, places, temporalities and politics. This project employs innovative ethnographic and feminist data science methods to demonstrate how the impacts of networked activism spread across time, scales, and spaces.
